When London’s public transport system was the target of attack Willie Baker was chosen as a leading member of the Strategic Command Team and he was immediately deployed. During the following days, weeks and months he helped deal with the initial consequences, and during the following period he led his respective teams to help restore the capital to normality.
His vast experience in leading people in challenging circumstances and dealing with catastrophic disaster stood him in good stead.
He was commended by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner for his “Outstanding Leadership”, and was the only member of his organisation to be recognised in this way.
